Top 5 Safety Tips for Using Radiators

Central heating systems can be quite costly and it’s hassle when it comes to replacing them. Therefore, more and more people are buying radiators as they are efficient, economic and easily movable. Radiators can provide direct heating to the rooms you use most. While these radiators can be both efficient and economical, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when it comes to using them. Radiators can cause fires and various other calamities. Here are some safety tips; you should follow when using radiators:

1. Plugging: A radiator should always be plugged directly into an outlet not through an extension cord. The cord which is plugged in should be of enough capacity to hold current required by the radiator. You shouldn’t cover the cord with a carpet or any other material as it may lead to overheating, which in turn can lead to fires.

2. Inspect and Maintain: You should always inspect a radiator especially when new, for any defaults. You should always clean the radiator from time to time, to ensure it works properly. Wiping away the dust from the radiator will make sure that dust and allergens won’t be dispersed in the air.

3. Keep away from Water: A radiator should not be kept in wet places like bathrooms or damp basements. You should never touch a radiator with wet hands as it may cause electric shocks. Many companies now offer radiators that are safe to be kept in bathrooms; however, you still shouldn’t keep them near the water sources like a sink or a shower.

4. Keep away from combustible materials: You should keep radiators away from combustible materials including draperies, rugs and bedding and more. These materials may catch fire due to heat from the radiators. The radiator should be kept 3 feet away from such materials to ensure safety.

5. Never Leave Unattended: You should always keep the radiator unplugged when not in use. Some radiators come with a timer where you can set a timer where the radiator will automatically shut off.
